Putting My Experience to Work
Retired from career with The Principal Financial Group. Long time community organizer, long time community advocate. A media host at https://www.youtube.com/@conversationswithcherylweston
and served as the Director of Lead Safe Omaha Coalition. Have served on various local boards. Currently a board member of the Spark Capital and the Nebraska Chapter of the Sierra Club.
Cheryl Weston is not a JOHNNY-COME-LATELY to issues and concerns affecting North Omaha as some of the other candidates for District 2. Weston is and has been entrenched in issues that specifically address District 2 as well as the City of Omaha such as lack of local businesses that would create employment opportunities in the underserved area of North Omaha. A real grocery store, not a convenience store (where the mainstream money maker is liquor items). She has fought and will continue to fight for decent affordable housing, private and public housing. The closing of the North Omaha OPPD coal plant. Cheryl Weston was instrumental in bringing economic opportunities for small local business and employment to the people in the community that was most affected by the lead remediation of poisonous lead in the soil created by the ASARCO Lead Refinery.
As some of the candidates have begun to attend various public events for photo-ops, Weston regularly attends public community meetings such as the Omaha City Council, Omaha Land Bank, Omaha Inland Port Authority, just to name a few. With housing is at the top of the list for Omaha. I have been attending meetings and advocating for affordable housing, habitual housing (OHA, City View, , and the Black Contractors Association for housing development) before it become popular or before deciding to run for City Council.
Before deciding to run for the City Council seat for District 2, Weston was continuously speaking out and encouraging people to vote in local elections. “Our local elections are so important, because whoever we elect will make decisions that affect our everyday lives, i.e., street maintenance, city services, parks, home new development, housing and old and new businesses.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSXBU-XWRts
Cheering people to get registered if they are not already registered. Once registered, be sure to get out and vote in our local election, primary April 1, 2025, and the general election May 13, 2025. If already registered be sure to go to the voting poles on April 1, 2025, and vote in the primary. Vote in the general election on May 13, 2025.
North Omaha needs a change. North Omaha needs real community engagement, not just during an election cycle, but throught the year. Not on Tuesday's, but each and every day. North Omaha is not just one small area, one little strip (North 24th Street). North Omaha is a large area with the demographics of a very diverse and multi-culture group of residents with various needs and concerns. North Omaha needs committed involvement from their representative, not just faux representation. North Omaha needs transparency of city government activities. North Omaha needs representation with honesty and integrity.
Not only am I willing to fill the current void, but I am ready on DAY ONE! Let's make the change TOGETHER! Let's move North Omaha into the future Omaha TOGETHER!. Mark your ballot (fill in the oval) for Cheryl Weston, City Council District 2.
